We truly live in the future. Stage shows are available on our cellphones, laptops, and televisions at the click of a button. You can try à la carte options like Amazon or YouTube, or subscribe to theatre streaming services like BroadwayHD or Digital Theatre. For filmed live musicals, the best service right now is BroadwayHD. It has the widest range of titles, with new and exciting titles being added on a regular basis. I’ll also be keeping my eye on Stage, a new streaming service launching in August.

Cennarium 
If you’re looking for musicals in languages other than English, and musicals off the beaten track, Cennarium is another subscription based service which adds new titles every week. I’m working on expanding the database to include musicals from Europe, and Cennarium is proving a great resource! Subscriptions are currently $9.97 USD per month, or $95.64 USD for an annual plan. Like BroadwayHD, you can sign up for a free 10 day trial. 

Digital Theatre 
British streaming service Digital Theatre was one of the first providers to offer on-demand theatre content online. The site hosts over 80 productions from around the world, including plays, opera, and music concerts. Subscriptions are currently £9.99 per month, or £7.99 for individual rentals.

I was super excited to stumble across Kanopy. If you have a library card from a participating library, it’s like free Netflix. I’m yet to find filmed live musicals on the site, but if you love Shakespeare, you’re in luck!

YouTube
Several musicals are legally available to view on YouTube, but they are not easy to find. There is no Musicals category on YouTube’s Movies and Shows page, and unlike Amazon or Netflix, the site does not provide other filmed live musicals in its suggestions/similar movies lists. Rentals range from $3 to $12 USD.
